Bude-Stratton Town Council Response To Covid-19/Coronovirus Situation

Town Council response to COVID-19/Coronavirus situation

March 16th 2020

To all our Castle customers and friends, we’re sorry to announce that following the Government’s advice issued on the 16th March 2020 in regards to social distancing and the protection of the vulnerable, the Town Council has made the difficult decision to close The Castle as of Tuesday 17th March.
The Council Office, Parkhouse Centre, and Library will also be shutting to the public as of this date.
In regards to workshops and private events, anyone who has had their booking cancelled will, of course, have their prepayment refunded in full.
We are also having to postpone planned public events for the next twelve week period. This includes:
April 18th – Proclamation Ceremony at The Triangle for Gorsedh Kernow.
8th May – VE Day Celebrations – Garden Party on The Castle Lawns.
7th June – Bude’s Earth Day.
In regards to Bude’s Earth Day, we are exploring exciting ideas on holding a virtual event and will be back with more information during the coming month. Rest assured, all stall holders will be fully reimbursed.
As it stands, our events for July onwards remain in the diary, starting with Battle of Stamford Hill Commemoration and Heritage Day on the 18th & 19th July.
We will also keep you updated in regards to our art exhibitions. We are currently talking to artists about featuring their work online and any postponned exhibitions will now take place in 2021.

On behalf of all The Castle team, may we say how sorry we are to have to make this announcement but I’m sure you understand that our priority is the health and wellbeing of our community and we feel it would be inappropriate to continue supporting social gatherings at this time.
Our position will be reviewed in line with Government advice over the coming weeks and updates will be issued across our websites and social media.
Finally, please can we urge everyone to look out for the most at risk within our community especially those without internet connections or social media. We have many treasured customers who are not on online and may feel cut off at this difficult time.
We understand that this is a stressful time for everyone at the moment but please don’t feel alone. There are already many wonderful community initiatives coming to action to support those most at risk and isolated including a Facebook group set up called ‘Bude and Surrounding areas Quarantine Support Group’.
Please also feel free to keep in contact with us here at The Castle. Our staff are still working away on exciting future projects and will be pleased to answer your questions and enquiries via email and social media.
In the meantime, may we wish you all well. Bude is an amazing town, with an amazing community that is already pulling together in strength. We are so very proud to be part of that community and can’t wait to welcome you all back to The Castle as soon as we are able.
The Castle Team
